2021 Begins with a Splash
A social media campaign called #FollowForFish is running the entire month of January to raise public awareness of aquatic animal welfare.
Throughout the month of January, the Aquatic Life Institute (ALI) is conducting a social media campaign, #FollowForFish. Launched across multiple social media platforms, the campaign aims to highlight the sentience of aquatic animals, as their welfare has historically been highly neglected.
Aquatic animals are some of the most mistreated and misunderstood animals on earth. Until recently, virtually no attention was paid to the welfare of aquatic animals. ALI is working to change this, both in terms of public perceptions of fish sentience as well as industry standards for how fish are treated.
“This campaign allows the public to easily support aquatic animals by following ALI’s social media accounts and using the hashtag #FollowForFish to help spread awareness,” said Director of Creative at ALI, Jasper Wilkins.
The idea is simple: the more followers, the greater the demand for improved treatment of fish. Currently, 100 billion fish are farmed in high-suffering conditions every year. We hope to elevate fish sentience in the public’s radar and increase public demand for improved fish welfare.
