Melissa de Miranda, Communications & Design Lead

Melissa is the Communications and Design Lead at Aquatic Life Institute. She is an awarded Brazilian journalist with almost two decades of experience in Digital Communications—some of her previous works include National Geographic, Globo, Brasileiros, and international broadcaster Deutsche Welle, in Germany.

She joined the animal advocacy movement in 2014, developing social media and content strategy for global organizations World Animal Protection and Sinergia Animal. In the latter, she successfully led branding and growth efforts across 6 countries as a Global Communications Manager. Her work as screenwriter behind high-profile investigations helped expose animal abuse in the Global South, including an exclusive story she negotiated with The Intercept Brasil that reached almost a million views.

Besides Journalism, Melissa has two degrees in screenwriting and founded a stop motion company in 2010—inspired by her belief in the power of video to make information accessible and dynamic. She dedicates herself as an activist in the feminist, LGBTQI+, environmental and animal rights movements and for the inclusion of people with disabilities. She is passionate about translating in-depth scientific data into compelling content and has a creative, data-driven style with extensive knowledge in storytelling, social media and design.
