NOVEMBER 28, 2023

This Giving Tuesday, stand with us in our mission to reduce the suffering of countless aquatic animals. Your support is the driving force behind our efforts. Together, we can make a meaningful difference for animals and our planet.

Giving Tuesday is a global movement that celebrates the incredible power of generosity. On Giving Tuesday, the world comes together to make a positive impact, whether it's putting a smile on someone's face, assisting a neighbor or stranger, supporting a cause close to our hearts, or sharing what we have with those in need. Every act of generosity matters. Big or small, every contribution helps us make the world a better place for everyone, including our aquatic friends.

This Giving Tuesday, we kindly ask for your support in reaching our target of $54,450. These funds will be allocated to two vital program areas: Aquatic Life Institute's active involvement in crucial global discussions on food systems, and our forthcoming research project dedicated to identifying best practices in aquaculture as related to animal welfare. Your generosity will make a substantial impact in these endeavors.

WHY DONATE TO AQUATIC LIFE INSTITUTE?

This year, Aquatic Life Institute has achieved significant milestones, including the launch of the Aquatic Animal Policy (AAP) focus group, our corporate initiative promoting aquatic animal welfare in corporate policies, and the publication of essential reports. Notably, we released the 2nd editions of Marine Capture Fisheries: Best Practices for Aquatic Animal Welfare, Benefits of Aquatic Animal Welfare for Sustainable Development Goals, and our highly regarded Aquaculture Certification Schemes Benchmark. We also released a report on Stunning & Slaughter: Best Practices for Animal Welfare in Aquaculture. We hosted our 4th Annual Aquatic Life Conference with 20+ speakers and a record-breaking 620 registrants, and actively participated in global food systems events to advocate for aquatic animal welfare. We’re gearing up to make a stand at the COP28 conference to drive positive change for aquatic animals. Explore more in our 2023 half-year report.

Aquatic Life Institute is dedicated to reshaping the future for aquatic animals. Our passionate team strives to reduce the suffering of the trillions of aquatic animals farmed, or caught in the wild, for human consumption annually.

Here's why your support on Giving Tuesday is crucial:

  1. Impactful Contributions: Your donation holds immense power. For every dollar you contribute, we estimate a significant positive impact, changing the lives of approximately 5,423 fishes and 221,343 shrimps through improved practices. Your support directly translates into substantial positive change for countless aquatic animals.

  2. Proven Track Record: We take pride in our successful three-year track record of success. However, to maintain and amplify our impact, we rely on your support. Your donation propels us forward, ensuring a continuous and significant difference in the lives of aquatic animals.

  3. Global Influence: Our mission knows no bounds. It's a collective effort that spans the globe, involving a shared responsibility. By supporting us on Giving Tuesday, you join a global movement for change. Your generosity touches the lives of aquatic animals in every corner of the world.

WHAT WILL WE DO WITH THE DONATIONS?

Aquatic Life Institute utilizes a 4Rs approach to enact formative change within the global seafood system. Through our primary streams of activity across the supply chain, advocacy pursuits are identified and executed according to one or more of the following principles: Reduce the number of animals in, or remove animals from, the seafood system and its supply chain. Refine the conditions in which animals are currently kept or captured in the seafood system and its supply chain. Replace animal products with sustainable plant-based or cell-based alternatives to the extent possible in the seafood system and its supply chain. Reject the introduction of additional animals into the seafood system and its supply chain.

Our two main goals for this Giving Tuesday are closely aligned with these principles.

Participation in Key Global Food Systems Dialogues

Our participation in key global food systems dialogues means that we engage in discussions focused on the production and distribution of seafood at an international level.

These dialogues are crucial because they enable us to influence policies, practices, and perceptions in the seafood sector. We can advocate for changes in seafood systems worldwide, adhering to all four of our fundamental principles. It is an essential step towards creating a seafood system that is kinder to aquatic animals and more sustainable for our planet.

Research Project - Best Practices in Aquaculture

We aim to raise funds to support our next significant research project. This project will focus on identifying and promoting best practices for animal welfare in aquaculture, in line with our 'Refine' and 'Replace' principles, working towards a more humane and sustainable seafood system.

This report, a valuable resource for aquaculture companies, offers insights and recommendations that enhance product quality, aquatic animal welfare, and address public health and environmental concerns, fostering industry-wide responsibility.

We are sincerely grateful for your support, and we are wholeheartedly committed to achieving our mission. While it's a journey, with your help, we are empowered to make it happen. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, is invaluable, and for that, we extend our heartfelt thanks. We are committed to ensuring our audience stays well-informed about our fundraising progress, so we will report out on our success following this year’s event.
