About Us

Aquatic Life Institute (ALI) was founded in 2019 as a hub for aquatic animal advocacy, focusing on mobilizing, connecting, and coordinating the international aquatic animal welfare movement. Placing research, coalitions, policy and advocacy initiatives under one roof means timely communication and engaged collaboration.

We are on a mission to reduce the suffering of the trillions of aquatic animals that are farmed or caught in the wild each year. Using a collaborative approach, we can generate and guide momentum for positive change. We are currently on the precipice of a global aquatic animal welfare movement, and we can ensure the work pursued in the years to come has the highest impact for the greatest number of aquatic animals. With our robust foundation in research, we have the unique opportunity to offer guidance on aquatic animal welfare, and to intervene where the humane treatment of aquatic animals is lacking.

About the Aquatic Animal Alliance

As part of our mission, ALI convenes and hosts the Aquatic Animal Alliance (AAA), a global coalition of more than 185 organizations across over 75 countries, working to advance aquatic animal welfare through policy, advocacy, research, and industry reform.

The Aquatic Animal Alliance serves as a platform for collaboration, coordination, and collective action across a diverse and international movement. The Community Specialist plays a central role in ensuring that this collaboration is active, strategic, and impactful.

How the Community Specialist Supports Our Mission

The Aquatic Animal Alliance Community Specialist is responsible for the execution, coordination, and facilitation of Aquatic Animal Alliance activities under the strategic direction of the Director of the Aquatic Animal Alliance.

The role focuses on day-to-day member engagement, working group facilitation, operational coordination, and knowledge management, ensuring that Alliance members can effectively participate in initiatives that have been strategically defined, as well as oversee the Aquatic Animal Alliance Resource Hub, ensuring it remains organized, accessible, and up to date.

This is a remote position and successful candidates' working times should be compatible with US EST time zones. Some travel is required for team retreats and key conferences.
