Caught in our oceans and rivers, or farmed at massive industrial operations, these sentient beings are capable of feeling pain, forming social bonds, and experiencing complex emotional and cognitive states.
Industrial aquaculture is expanding at a rapid pace. At this moment, facilities worldwide are actively trying to introduce new species, like octopuses, into intensive farming operations. Despite this, adequate aquatic animal welfare protections remain largely absent from laws, policies, and practices.
